Information for Presenters
ETHOS has two types of presentations, plenary presentations and breakout presentations.
Plenary presentations are by invitation only and are held at various times for all in-person and virtual attendees to attend. Someone from the ETHOS board will be in contact with you to coordinate your talk.
Breakout presentations are open for anyone to apply to speak by submitting an abstract. Breakouts are held in three parallel sessions in different rooms at various times during the day and grouped by theme. Attendees can choose which parallel session to attend and can move between rooms. There will generally be 4 presenters per hour (15 min), and sometimes 3 presenters per hour (20 min). Plan your talk for 10-12 minutes with 2-5 minutes for questions and transition to the next speaker. If you happen to be in a room with 3 presenters you will have a few extra minutes.
Breakout presentation process:
-
Submit an abstract to apply to give a breakout presentation
-
Register for the conference! You must register for the conference in addition to submitting an abstract
-
After the abstract deadline the ETHOS board will review abstracts to confirm that the topic is a good fit for the conference. There is no editorial review, we attempt to accommodate all speakers with a contribution to share related to clean cooking or household energy. We will email speakers to confirm that your abstract was accepted.
-
The ETHOS board will create the detailed agenda of when each breakout presentation will take place sometime in January. The abstracts will be posted as well so conference attendees can decide which breakout sessions to attend.
-
Submit your slides or a video recording of your presentation. Details for submitting slides will be updated in January 2026. In-person talks are given live in person from your submitted slides. Online/virtual talks can either be shared by a prerecorded video or given by live video and shared slides from the conference computer. We recommend a prerecorded video if you internet connection is unreliable.
-
Give your talk or we will share your video from the conference computer. Even if you submitted a video please attend the session to answer questions live.
If you are presenting online/virtually and you would like to record a video here is how to do it:
1. Make your slides using PowerPoint, Google Slides or Keynote
2. Plan and practice your presentation; you should aim for a talking time of about 10
minutes.
3. Record and save your presentation video. You can record just your slides with a
voiceover, or you can record your voice, slides, and a “talking head thumbnail” in the
corner of the screen. We strongly recommend that you record some short “test”
recordings to make sure that the video and audio are working as-expected before
recording your full presentation.
4. Upload your video to YouTube.
a. If you do not have a Google/Gmail account, create one.
b. Upload your video to YouTube.
c. Please name your video using the following format:
ETHOS Conference 2026 | {your_name} | {your_talk_title}.
Ex: ETHOS Conference 2026 | Danny Wilson | Measuring Cookstove Adoption with SUMS
5. Let the ETHOS staff know you have uploaded your video by sending an email to
ethos.cooks@gmail.com. Please format your email the following way:
Subject line: YouTube upload for: {your_name} | {your_talk_title}
